Finding and checking a real estate agent

How do I find a real estate agent in Houston?
Start with agents who work the neighborhoods you are considering. Directories — this one, and the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR.com) directory — show service areas and current listings. Interview two or three, ask how many buyers or sellers they represented in that area over the past year, and ask for references you can call.
How do I check that a Texas real estate agent is licensed?
Search the agent's name or licence number on the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) website. It shows whether the licence is active, which broker sponsors it, and any disciplinary action. On this site, the verified badge appears only after our staff have checked an agent's licence.
What is the difference between a realtor and a real estate agent?
A real estate agent — a sales agent, in Texas — holds a state licence. A REALTOR® is a licensed agent who is also a member of the National Association of REALTORS® and follows its Code of Ethics. Every Texas licence holder must give you TREC's Information About Brokerage Services notice at your first substantive conversation, which explains whom the agent represents.
